Pittsburgh 101: My Favorite Things About Living in the Steel City
Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, has a rich history, beautiful architecture, and a vibrant cultural scene. As a resident of the Steel City, I have come to love many things about this unique and charming place. Here are just a few of the best things about living in Pittsburgh.
Architecture
One thing that sets Pittsburgh apart from other cities is its stunning architecture. From the towering skyscrapers downtown to the beautiful Victorian homes in the city’s historic neighborhoods, Pittsburgh has something to offer for architecture enthusiasts.
The city’s iconic bridges, which span the Allegheny, Monongahela, and Ohio Rivers, are also a sight to behold. With Pittsburgh houses for sale in many of these beautiful neighborhoods, residents can enjoy the city’s stunning architecture daily.
Fine Arts
Another thing that makes Pittsburgh special is its thriving arts and cultural scene. The city is home to several world-class museums, including the Carnegie Museum of Art, the Andy Warhol Museum, and the Heinz History Center.
The Pittsburgh Cultural Trust also hosts various festivals and events throughout the year, including the Three Rivers Arts Festival and the Pittsburgh International Jazz Festival. Whether you’re into visual arts, music, or theater, there’s something for everyone to enjoy in Pittsburgh.
Gourmet Kitchens
Foodies will also appreciate Pittsburgh’s diverse and delicious food scene. The city is known for its iconic Primanti Brothers sandwich, which features meat, cheese, cole slaw, and french fries piled onto a soft Italian roll.
But that’s just the beginning. Pittsburgh is also home to various ethnic cuisines, from Polish pierogies to Italian pasta to Vietnamese banh mi. With so many amazing restaurants to choose from, residents of Pittsburgh will never go hungry.
Black and Gold
For sports fans, Pittsburgh is a dream destination. The city is home to three major sports teams—the Pittsburgh Steelers (football), the Pittsburgh Penguins (hockey), and the Pittsburgh Pirates (baseball). Watching a game at Acrisure Staduim, PPG Paints Arena, or PNC Park is an experience like no other.
With passionate fans and a winning tradition, Pittsburgh’s sports teams are a big part of the city’s identity.
Community
Finally, one of the best things about living in Pittsburgh is the sense of community. Despite being a big city, Pittsburgh feels like a small town in many ways. People are friendly and welcoming, and there’s a strong pride in the city’s history and culture. Afterall, they were raised by Mr. Rogers.
From neighborhood block parties to city-wide events like the Pittsburgh Marathon, there are plenty of opportunities to come together and celebrate what makes Pittsburgh great.
